I think there was a pre-release (leaked?) version of Windows98 called Windows97.

I remember playing Castles1. I liked the "visits" and problems you had to solve from time to time, though I don't think they had much impact on the game.
Never went very far in the game, tried it again last year but it wouldn't catch on.

If you already got the sword but, to pull it out whenever you want press 5. When you meet a guard the prince goes automatically in combat mode.

Very Off-Topic  That's right, I am your countryman, Larry. :D Should have put in "Europe by the Dâmboviţa", but who the hell heard of that puny river? Danube is more popular. "Tră-ia-scă Dosu, cu care ne-am născut! Chiar aici în ţara...

I'm certain the sound/video drivers are messed up on his system. With no hardware specs though, it's hard to suggest anything specific.

I also don't think is necessary to struggle with the tapes anymore. The are dozens of sites with abandonware spectrum games, and also some good emulators. There are no performance issues, like with dos emulators under windows, i.e. And I really don't understand how the "legal" aspect for t...

I thought we were suposed to talk about graphic cards used in dos machines, but maybe "I make error stupid" ^_^ On my main PC I have a Leadtek 7600GT (gpu@560Mhz, 256*dd3@1400Mhz, 128-bit). On my dos-machine a have a S3 Trio 3D / 4MB Ram and a 3dfx Voodoo2 accellerator. The problem is that...

The problem with new generation computers (post - 2000) is the way they allocate Address, IRQ's and DMA for the onboard or PCI soundcards - in PURE DOS. You don't get the "standard" values required by DOS games. A few years ago I gave up on using my new computer for DOS games. In pure Dos ...

Dosbox is for NT-based operating systems, like XP. It's useless for Win98, which has true DOS. And this is what you should do, oskok, restart in ms-dos mode and run the game from there.

Also, there are no dos-compatible settings for soundcards. The IRQs are far off-scale in XP.

4 Years ago, when I got my first P4, at first I tried DOS Games on XP (with VDM Sound), but performance was very poor. Then I tried pure DOS on the machine, but the onboard sound didn't have proper dos drivers. The Soundblaster16 PCI card I added sounded very poor compared to my old AWE64 ISA. It is...

You can change "AGP Aperture size" in modern BIOS'es, but that is the amount of existing video memory dedicated to textures.

There's nothing you can do for video, I'm afraid.
That machine of yours is best suited for running Windows 98, if DOS Games are your thing.

Oh, and XP Service Pack 2 is the latest available. ^_^

OK, go ahead and buy that "64 mb" graphic card. But believe me that 64 doesn't mean much in terms of performance. It's just for the amount of texture data the card can hold, but its speed is given by its GPU performance, and the memory's bandwitdh and speed. Check out these very comprehens...
