I think there was a pre-release (leaked?) version of Windows98 called Windows97.

I remember playing Castles1. I liked the "visits" and problems you had to solve from time to time, though I don't think they had much impact on the game.
Never went very far in the game, tried it again last year but it wouldn't catch on.

The problem with new generation computers (post - 2000) is the way they allocate Address, IRQ's and DMA for the onboard or PCI soundcards - in PURE DOS. You don't get the "standard" values required by DOS games. A few years ago I gave up on using my new computer for DOS games. In pure Dos ...

Dosbox is for NT-based operating systems, like XP. It's useless for Win98, which has true DOS. And this is what you should do, oskok, restart in ms-dos mode and run the game from there.

Also, there are no dos-compatible settings for soundcards. The IRQs are far off-scale in XP.

You can change "AGP Aperture size" in modern BIOS'es, but that is the amount of existing video memory dedicated to textures.

There's nothing you can do for video, I'm afraid.
That machine of yours is best suited for running Windows 98, if DOS Games are your thing.
