I've tried playing Doom and Rise of the Triad multiplayer in the past. It was unplayably slow while playing those games in single player run great.
Does anybody have experience with multiplayer in dosbox?
DOSBOX multiplayer
For playing these old games multiplayer, you will probably want to use a modern port like Skulltag or ZDaemon for Doom.
As for Rise of the Triad, never tried that multiplayer, but there is a brief guide here: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/rise_of_the ... er_working

Doom multiplay in dosbox over LAN@home = no problem.
When you run Doom/dosbox multiplay over the internet, it can be indeed problematic.
Sometimes Hamachi can help, but it's trial and error. Sometimes it lags, sometimes not ....
But honnestly, if you play the classic maps in skulltag you'll have the oldschool experience, you can set everything as it was in the ol'days, no jumping, no mouse aim, no whatevers and no whatnots.....
..... but minus the horrific pixelated graphics of the original Dooms on modern hardware.

Heh, I kinda like the 320x200 resolution for classic maps. It tends to hide the simple architecture while your mind fills in the blanks. And the darkness gradient is obvious and ugly to me beyond 320x200, but that's just me. With Skulltag, I like to have my settings geared toward modern detailed maps. I'll have to wait for Odamex to get pixel scaling. :]
