Windows top down 2.5D off road racer about 1999-2000

Post by tomassey »

Hi there,

Trying to track down a Windows racer from about 2000, featuring off road trucks racing around a series of tracks with obstacles including hills, water, mud. Four trucks in each race, combination of human and AI players. You progressed through the game by winning races. I'm not sure if you were able to upgrade your truck between races, you may have been.

Top down, 2.5D perspective: The entire track was in view at all times, the trucks moved around the track while the view stayed static.

Gameplay and perspective very similar to 'Super Off Road' from 1990, but more advanced graphics from about 2000 and generally more extreme tracks - larger hills etc.

No weapons or other means of hindering the other trucks was used, essentially realistic rally driving.

I think I got it in a bundle of game CDs that included 'Deus Ex', 'MDK2', and 'Rollcage' that came with a Win 98 PC I bought in 2000, so reasonably sure it would have been a 1999 or 2000 release. Vague idea the game bundle was meant to show off the NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 card that came with the PC, so the game I'm looking for perhaps had pretty advanced graphics for the time.

Have tried searching Mobygames, Google, Wikipedia, not coming up with a match.

Thanks for any help!

You could also search for trucks on the "internet car game database": http://www.igcd.net/ - sometimes there are screenshots of them.

Could it be GeneRally? The game is not that much graphically advanced but has many of the elements you mentioned.

There also seems to have been an effort for a second version
Found my game. Thanks.

Thanks guys!

Not quite there, but some useful leads.

I'll have a search through the car database site.

'GeneRally' is the correct perspective view, but the graphics were more advanced. I have a memory of softer, more textured graphics, no hard edges. Also, pretty sure they were all dirt tracks, where 'GeneRally' seems to have road tracks.

There's a chance the game came on a demo CD with the Win 98 PC I bought - was a Gateway 2000 PC if that sparks any memories with people who bought a Gateway PIII machine in about 2000 :)
