download games

Post by quake »

Hey guys this is a really great site, but one question for the das games archive. How do you download the games??? I tried everything, with win zip, without win rar, but It seems when I download a game (quake 1) it says they're are no files to extract. So does that mean there is nothing there at all? I read the download guide but it didnt really help. I tried to save the file before downloading. And when it was done there was nothing in the folder I saved it in. Any ideas, thanx!

Hmmm... it appears the link is broken, try downloading it <a href=http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download ... </a></html>. (Dosgamesarchive... where the links are never broken, the sun is always shining, and the air smells like warm rootbeer)

He's having the problem with DGA. And it's not a broken link; he's saying the zip file was empty.

...Try downloading it on Dosgames.com... it doesn't. Archive seems to be okay, so I'll investigate that more.

Sure enough, the file from Archive is also okay... I think the problem is entirely in quakes computer.

Quake: Redownload.

Hmm I tried redownloading but the folder was still empty. Do I need winzip? Last time I had it, and winzip said it was a bad file name or invalid or somethin.

Try WinRAR or a freeware program called "Ultimate Zip".

It seems to work okay with Winzip on my computer. (Currently XP Home ED)... what version are you using? As far as good Unzip programs, try WinAce. Come to think of it... I got that problem with Winzip a lot as well back with an older version... Winace cured all of that.

ya, and it seems to me that most (if not all) the files from DGA are in .rar form, which can only be extracted using winrar (or so i thought)

They can also be extracted with WinAce and Ultimate Zip. The only difference between WinRar and WinAce is that WinRar is the only one that can compile rars, and WinAce is the only one that can compile aces. Both can decompile all of it.

But I managed to unzip it with Winzip... is this a difference between the paid for edition (which I have) and shareware??? This is troubling indeed. ?=/

Theres a thing with WinRAR: To extract all files, you need to click "File" then "Select all". Then click "commands" then extract files.

Or you can highlight all of them, by pressing and holding shift and clicking at the top, scrolling down to the bottom (while holding shift), and click on the last file.
