Retro games comic - This Strife
Hello all
Back around the year 2000 I started up a website called This Strife on which I posted comics I made using the Duke3D Build engine. I was lucky to have 3D Realms post a link to on from their website which brought in lots of eyeballs.
The comics were centered around Duke Nukem and his best mate Doom Marine. But many other gaming characters would also appear. Here's an example of one
... at least there would be - but I can't post links or images yet
I was lucky enough to enjoy running the site for many years and got to know a lot of great people in the community. That's what I miss the most about those days
A few years ago I decided to upload most of the old comics to strifestrips dot tumblr dot com so that they'd continue to exist on the web as I'd long since taken my old website down.
Now it's 2020 and I think I'm having a mid-life crisis because I'm getting very nostalgic for those days and that community.
I'm planning to put together a new website and start creating some new comics.
I'm not sure if anyone from those old days uses this forum board? If not, hopefully these comics will give people some amusement Let me know either way
Thanks
Peter

Yes that's right
I'm currently very slowly starting to put together a new domain at Strife Forever dot com that will host the new content.
I've decided to build a bespoke website, as I used to have back in the day. Rather than use Tumblr as I have to host the old comics.

Good luck!
I learned about your comic from NY00123's website, recently he posted an update here which I think is unlikely a coincidence (?).
This forum is pretty dormant save for the find/identify games section, but you're welcome to stay

That's a shame, being in a retro forum makes me feel quite nostalgic! I was quite excited when I discovered this forum
I've created a Discord server for the community at my new website as it seems like the way things are going. But secretly I'm hoping that I'll be able to get an old skool forum on the go!
It just gives me a warm glow thinking about it

Nice to see you here Ira
For anyone here with an interest in Duke Nukem, the first new episode after 14 years is available from http://www.strifeforever.com now
I'm aiming to release a new episode each month, as that feels like an achievable starting point. I'll give it a go for a year and see if I and everyone else wants it to continue!

@MaverickUK, can you see your images that you're posting here? They're not showing for me, possibly because the width is greater than the width of the post text space, and the forum engine does not auto-fit large images for some reason (I hoped this would be fixed with the switch to phpBB3 but apparently not). IIRC there must be a BBCode tag to take care of the issue but I'm not sure which one.

FYI: It might be a browser thing, I can see the images fine, and for me they get scaled down to fit - some of them seem to be 0x0 but still get rescaled ok.
