What dogames will work on a 486 computer, and are smaller than 1.4 mb?

Everything which does fit to that size does. Generally published ons before '95.

Pretty much any DOS game will play on a fast 486 except Quake, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and games like that.
I never really pay attention to the sizes though.

Quake and Tomb 1 does! But both are kinda slow (Tomb more than Q!).

Most or all games that don't need DOS4GW or any other 32-bit extender should run fine on 486 PCs (although a few 32-bit DOS games run on 486s). Just about all DOS games that state Pentium or better as minimum system requirements are 32-bit games.
