Possible to share zip file on two disks?

Post by jcapatos »

I have a game(Doom 1) I want to download, but I have to do it from another computer. The zip file is 2.44 mb, but my floppy disks are only 1.44mb. Is it possible to download the game on two disks?

Oz(?)'s dad has actually written a program that does that for you... contact him if you want it. Another option would be to unzip Doom, put Dooms_19.1 on one floppy and all the other files on the other. Now, rezip both, put the floppy in, and unzip into the same folder. Should work perfectly.

Winzip will do multi-disk spanning for you if you unzip and re-zip it.

Somehow, I don't think Windows is installed on the second computer. Otherwise, it would probably be downloaded from the second one.

this is how you do it with winzip.
1. either unzip all the files , and zip em again, or zip the original zip with another file, for example a small .txt which wont be that huge a waste of space.
2. when the Winzip Add dialog box comes up, enter A:\doom.zip in the Add To Archive field.
3. When you have entered A: in the ^^ above field, the Multiple Disk Spanning drop-down list will become avaiable. If you got the latest version of winzip, it will be set to Automatic. If you got an older version, You'll have to choose between different filesizes for each archive part. I reccomend not going for the full 1.44 mb, but leave a wee bit of free space, and go for the 1.39 mb option.

That should do it. :bday:
