Pink Floyd
sorry all you heavy rockers out there - but pink floyd is the best. the best. the best. get their "dark side of the moon" and "wish you were here" albums, and listen to them.
i was once a thrasher. but now i'm a dreamy stoner.

<singing> so, so you think you can tell, heaven from hell, Blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold, steel rain. A smile from a veil. Do you think you can tell. Did they get you to traid You hero's for ghosts, hot ashes for trees...</singing> --From Wish You Were Here
i have over 500mb of Pink Floyd songs. (All copied off my dad's records)

yep, i have a load of albums too wardrich, and guess what? i got them from my dad's records too! by the way, if you listen to the first part of "shine on you crazy diamond" on the wish you were here album, right at the start, you can hear what sounds like the monkey island theme tune. about 2-3 minutes in, i believe.
and dopefish, that's cool, i'm just expressing my opinion. i'm glad you like them.

So it appears that some of you youngin's are familiar with vinyl, nice
Now how about asking your fathers if any of them have all the Half-Speed masters on vinyl as well This is the sign of a true fan of Floyd or for any other band/artist for that matter
Also if you really want to get into Floyd, take a psychadelic trip down a few older albums like:
A Saucerful of Secrets
Umma Gumma
Obscoured By Clouds
Meddle
Atom, Heart Mother etc...
Pay close attention to tracks like Echoes, Careful With That Axe Eugene, See Emily Play, St. Tropez, Set The Controls For the Heart of the Sun and of course, Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pick

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Just curious, but what's your vinyl copy set up: hardware (sterio system and computer), wiring, software... ? Are you mixing to WAV or going straight to mp3? Sample rates? Final resulting quality? Pop and scratch supression? Clipping points?wardrich wrote:I have over 500mb of Pink Floyd songs. (All copied off my dad's records)
I'm always interested in other's archieving systems for old tech.
But note there IS a possibility vinyl will out last all electronic media, properly stored. For exampleI have several 100 year-old 78 rpm albums.

Oz and everyone:
I've made a topic on this item here in the Music forum so as not to side-track the Floyd fans. We should move the recording tips banter to this location.

Now back to the Floyd discussion!
Truth to tell I'm a bit more partial to Jethro Tull. But there are simularities.

All this Floyd talk and NOBODY mentioned The Wall? Or even Animals, for that matter...anyways, yeah, Pink Floyd's been at the top of my list for a while...art rock...rocks.
I've never been into the Syd Barrett stuff, though...way too much grunge sound to me...I guess I like Roger Waters the best, though I never liked how he kicked out Rick Wright...or how he left and tried to sue for exclusive rights...but it doesn't pay to let personality allow on to overlook his work...goddamned genius.

Is "Alloy run" one of Pink Floyd's pieces?
"Long before there was ultra-super-duper-128-bit-polygon-video-capture, hardware hype, wEiRd TyPe, pointless game ratings, E3, SCREAMING GUYS in ads, Virtual Reality, cliches like "in your face" and "it's the ultimate", 360 degree roto-scope-rhetoric from self righteous reviewers, CD-this, 3-D that, multi-million-dollar TV commercials tainted with TOILET humor...
...there was fun."
