Problems with Tyrian + Jazz Jackrabbit under DOS
I'm trying to run tyrian 2000 on my new centrino 1.4ghz laptop.. think this is gonna be possible?
problems i'm getting are that in straight-up xp running mode there is no sound, and the game is running at what seems to be about 80% normal speed (i.e. music chops a little bit, game studders.. playable, just annoying)
so i tried dosbox to some very interesting results.. i actually got sound and music but the SPEED was wildly unpredictable.. sometimes it ran TOO fast but most of the time it would run waaaaaaayyy too slow...
would it be worth my time to set up a second partition with just pure dos on it or is there something i can do to just get sound running it in normal xp? (which is, for the most part still playable)
thanks

Tyrian 2000 runs fine (surprisingly) straight from XP - but no sound or music.
Running it with VDMS enables music - but sound only works in the setup prog - but the whole game slows right down, between 25% and 75% speed all the time (slows the music down with it).
Tried most things I could think of - anybody have any suggestions? Dosbox doesn't do anything with t2k as I think it was designed to run in windows anyway???
Having to play this game mute does not do it justice. TPPatch also refuses to run the game (gives me some error, but I'm not familiar with the language). Don't think I need it anyways.
So it's just sound I need help with.
This game rules.
Cheers.

well i need to contact the author 1st. Unless you can supply me with a copy of the URL in an email ([email protected]
When you run old DOS games you should run them in DOS. So not windows XP, not 2000 or 98SE not even DOS 7. Use the highest legaecy DOS. Dos 6.22. You can download the Boot floppies anywhere.
You should have no problems once the BLASTER variables are set (as mentioned earlier). You might have a prblem with conventional memory the 640K but that can be fixed by adding DOS=high,UMB to you CONFIG.SYS. if that doesn't do the trick download QEMM wich is THE best memory manager for DOS.
I Hope this helped the people with dos games problems...

When running the setup i got the "unable to play sound FX" error but thats nothing new its strange that there is no music. No errors either.

wow finally someone who wants somthing else. Its avaliable from www.dosgames.com
Okay, I've got Tyrian running now with sound (No sound effects, none of the options in the setup.exe work), but now the problem is that the game is running too slow. I have an Athlon XP 3000+, just in case you're wondering. How can I make the game run at normal speed (I already tried setting the compatibility when you right click and go to properties)? Thanks.
I already read it from page one and I get stuck where everybody else gets stuck - The game boots up fine with sound, it just doesn't run at the right speed (Most of the time too slow).Wally*Won_Kenobie wrote:but did you try what was mentioned in the previous posts?
click page one and read from there
