Which Mobo? Makin' a 486 and a pentium system.

Got myself a couple of 486sx based systems:

1. Genuine IBM PS/1 33Mhz 4mb RAM desktop
2. MSI (Microstart international) 4132 G mobo 33Mhz 4mb RAM with serial mouse (adapted to PS2) and OLD BIG din plug for keyboard, 7 ISA slots, tower, Video: Cirrus logic GD-54

I will have a seperate pentium system for newer DOS/Win95 games.

Is the type of mobo for a pentium system relevant to DOS gaming? I have a choice of a:

ASUS Motherboard P/1-P55TVP4:
Specs - Pentium, Pentium MMX, K5, K6, 6x86, 6x86MX, Socket 7, Intel 430VX PCIset, 4 PCI, 3 ISA, Baby AT Form Factor

OR

ECS P6LX-A+, P2, ATX, USB:

I like that the ECS is ATX form factor and has USB.

Which 486 should I use to build an old school dos games rig?

Shoud I ditch the MSI mobo and replace it with an Intel DX2 66Mhz or MSI DX4 100Mhz mobo?

What to do?

I pers would go for the MSI DX4 100Mhz

but like usual: ask 10 people and you get 10 dif'rent opinions.

Go for the MSI but make sure you have the correct Power supply and Ram for it.

Oh and if you are installing an AT powersupply make sure black wires line up otherwise you risk blowing your computer up

Underclock the Pentium to 75 MHz, and then it should be the ONLY DOS gaming computer you need.

Naw, I disagree. Stuff like Quake, Shadow Warrior, etc. might benefit from a faster CPU, like P200.

But to most o' 'em it's unnessessary fast.

Unnecessarily fast, true. But only to a few of these games the speed is actually a problem (the games that were programmed poorly). And so far, any game I tried I could slow down enough with software slowdown utilities on a P200.

But even then, my point was that a 75MHz Pentium won't be THE ONLY DOS game computer one will ever need.

Go for the Intel DX2. It's a better system for most of the old DOS gaming.
