Help me fix it so i can run Magic the gathering on win xp

Post by Daniel »

i have just got magic the gathering on pc, and i am trying to get it to run on win xp. it starts up the main menu, but when you actually try to play i get: "Assertion error File-> d\new magic\sources\sid\glue.c, line-> 706 could not load daves extra cool timer" i have no idea how to fix this, and this game works fine in win 95 or win 98.

I would really apreciate if you could let me know if there is a way to fix this!

Thanks

I got mtg working, is it the original game only you got? or any of the expansions?

What file do you use to start the game? right-click and check version there.

I get a message saying win95 is needed to install...the game hasn't worked since I've gotten XP. Does anyone know how to make it work with XP?

I'm not realy sure but if the instaler is for win you might try right-clicking on it then choosing properties, compatibility and use "run in compatibility mode for Windows 95"

Have you tried adjusting the compatibility settings? Right-click the game's executable file and choose "Properties" from the pop-up menu. Go to "Compatibility" tab and check all checkboxes on that page, namely:
- Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 95
- Run in 256 colors
- Run in 640x480 screen resolution
- Disable visual themes
- Turn off advanced text services for this program
and click OK. Then try running the game again.

Number 1: I ALREADY said that...
Number 2: Magic: The Gathering download is a link to an abandonware game and if you did't know till now abandonware links are forbidden on this forum so you could either remove it yourself or leave a mod to do it(not recomended)
