my Windows 98 is horriable for any kind of gaming

Post by abyss »

I use my windows 98 very rarely but i get unsupported sound on almost all the games. I get unsupported graphics on most games and the computer is slow when actually running a game. My xp believe it or not can play acient dos games a lot better than that 98. I am able to play games like a final unity, wolfenstein, quake, doom, Jazz jackrabbit and the comander keen series, The Need For Speed and even lighthouse perfectly on my XP. I even tried an old freeware lucas arts game and it worked. I can even play Liero regular on the xp. Most of the games don't even need dos box. I can play even more games like Grnd prix, Indy car racing 2, rogue, zork, old 007 games, mega race, sim city, indiana jones, death rally, duke knukeem, Hugo, alladin before i sold the game, prince of persia, DOOM, NFS 2 demo(The demo is dos but the full version of the game isn't) and even the old windows games. The games that i cannot get working are the ones from smart key because they shut almost all the computer files down including things like VDM sound or dos box and do not run right on a xp. That is the only place where the 98 can beat my xp.
My windows xp may not be as good as the windows 95 i used to have with 256 mb ram and 11 gb of total space. My 95 was the choice for dos games. It can all the games i said without dos box. That computer could even run alladin in windows. The 95 i used to have was the best for dos games. It can run more games than my xp can.

Sounds like your Win98 machine sucks ass whereas mine kicks ass. It runs every DOS game I've ever thrown at it, which isn't a bad effort since I can throw those discs pretty hard. :P

But seriously, just sounds like you got unlucky with your hardware/software, as I said mine runs all DOS games I've ever tried on it, the vast majority of which with no emulation whatsoever.

Nothing, and REALLY nothing beats a 486DX40 DOS PC to play dosgames.

I'm certain the sound/video drivers are messed up on his system. With no hardware specs though, it's hard to suggest anything specific.

a pentium 150mhz with mmx easily beats it considering the number of programs out there to slow it down when needed... with mms you can play dos dungeon keeper with not so gay looking graphics.
