problem with pc

Post by aladavlis »

Hello,
I am having trouble with my Internet explorer. It is doing some very odd things.Sometimes it will completely close the page i am visiting for no reason or it will be very slow loading pages and when i say slow i mean very very very slow for eg i tried to google something and after 10 minutes of the page trying to load i gave up.I thought that it was perhaps the topic i was searching so i tried putting in random things to see if that made any difference but it didn't.Another problem i had was when i was on a forum and clicked on a link and nothing happened i tried to open a new tab and that wouldn't work either and it would let me access any options that are in my tools menu.i had to restart my computer.Just to let you know i have high speed Internet connection. Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me with this problem.

Unless the problem's with your internet connection, I suggest you switch to Firefox 2

I used to have the same problem, when I was stuck using Internet Explorer version 6 on and old computer. Things would sometimes stop loading midway through, forcing me to close everything else and restart my computer. The worst part was that I was using Windows ME. :(

But, yeah. Get Fire Fox like Larry Laffer suggested, and that should solve those problems. Mind that Fire Fox is known to sometimes take up somewhat large amounts of memory at times.

You should probably scan your computer for both spyware and viruses. Here's some good free tools you can use:

Spyware scan:
AdAware SE Personal: http://www.lavasoft.de/download_and_buy ... _chart.php (scroll to the bottom and click the Free Download link)
Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html (get the first file on the list, "Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4")
AVG Anti-Spyware: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5

Virus scan:
avast! Antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
AVG Anti-Virus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
Online Panda Antivirus scan: http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan (Scans without installing anything in your browser but may not work for you since it needs IE ... :suspicious:)

In the meantime, yes, using Firefox is a good idea:

And after installing Firefox you should also install:

NoScript
Adblock
Adblock Filterset.G Updater
FlashBlock

:D

And let's not forget the always-useful:

FasterFox
Translator
MouseGestures

Of course, I use more than 4 addons (I got no script :D )but, there not a must-have

Oh, and TSm... FlashBlock(or at least the version I tried) is a piece of crap! Block every single flash, even when it's not needed.

Which btw is a great alternative in case you only have 64 MBs or less of RAM

Fasterfox is the biggest piece of over-rated crap ever released for Firefox, I would highly advise against using it.

all it is is a noob interface for specific options found in the about:config area... no need to flame it... and uh im using dutchblock :) which works great... does pretty much much what the Adblock Filterset.G Updater does.

Pre-fetching is a bad thing, among numerous other features, I have plenty of reason to flame it.

1. It slows down your browsing, it does NOT speed it up like it claims.
2. Pre-fetching is bad, it places higher strain on the website you are viewing and can lead to your IP being banned from that site in some more extreme cases.
3. The high number of random glitches. Yes the extension works well for some people, but there is a steady stream of people who are plagued with issues. The extension has been in development for a long time yet these never seem to go away.

And I'll give you a number 4 just for the heck of it:
4. Most useful things Fasterfox can do, you can do yourself provided you have an IQ higher then that of your dog.

In any case enough about Fasterfox, if aladavlis wants to install it, he can, I simply recommend he doesn't. And since this thread was about helping aladavlis get rid of his problems with his PC and he is yet to respond we can either assume the problems are fixed and go about our merry way or help him further upon his next post.
