i cant get away from the dog to get to the store room

don't you have to give him steak or something like that? I haven't played that game in eons

Yeah, you have "throw steak" already written down the bottom before you walk into the room...
Then hit enter as soon as you go into the room.

Just in case you don't have the steak, you have to go up into the bedroom upstairs and open the closet. See that weird head? It's a mask. Get it, and put it on. Go to the kitchen. The butler comes up and asks you if you want a chop. Say 'yes' and then he gives you a pork chop. DO NOT go into the room with the dog until you've got the following things in your inventory: knife, chop, whistle, oil, bung, plus of course the ones which are now useless which are the mask, the key and the candle.
