Nice, you don't need the CD anymore.

Now let's get you once again a level up....

Open Notepad and type those lines: (NO TYPOS!)
imgmount d \atlan.iso -t iso
d:
atlantis

Save it in j:\dosgames\ as j:\dosgames\atlancd.txt
Now go on your USB key in 'my comuter', select (highlight) atlancd.txt hit F2 and rename it as:
atlancd.bat
When you get your own PC back it's possible that the USB key won't be J:\ anymore..... Keep your head on the job.
Run dosbox and input: atlancd
If you made no typos the atlantis ISO will automount, and your game will run.
You don't need to type the whole line again.

Congrats, you just wrote a small program, it's called a batch file.

i wrote it out perfect into notepad
went to save to J:dosgames\atlancd.txt
but it wont save it at all
so i save into

Oh what happened there
anyway i tried the notepad thing and it saved under dosgames and has its own file
but when i open dosbox and input
atlancd
it comes up with
illegal command so i tried this
but i opened dosbox and inputted
imgmount d j:\atlan.iso -t iso
MSCDEX installed
drive d is mounted as j:\atlan.iso

so dont know what to do there anymore
so obviously i am on the wrong track somewhere
and i still have other cds i want to set up but wonder how

Check the name again whilst in Windows.
Must be atlancd.bat Not atlancd.txt or atlancd.bat.txt.
In notepad save it as atlancd.txt first,
then rename it by going on your USB key, highlight the file, hit F2.

Run dosbox and input dir/w, you should see a atlancd.bat in the list.

When you run dosbox it starts up in C: , isn't it?

I know i had this running before
but i couldnt find it and was going to remake cd for my daughters computer
so i downloaded the disc again and put in dosgames
under atlan iso
which is there
found the atlancd.bat file
went into dosbox
and opened the cdatlan
comes up with illegal command
so opened dir/w
and came up with this

hope that link works
and also need to know what to do with dott and samandmax
when i put them on iso how do i copy them and run them

BTW, your atlan.iso is not located as j:\atlan.iso but as
j:\dosgames\atlan.iso or it wouldn't show when typing dir in dosbox.
Keep your head on the job!
So your mount line should be:
imgmount d j:\dosgames\atlan.iso -t iso

I also see a samand~1.iso, that's pretty worthless, learn to shorten your names to 8 or less characters, no spaces, no points, no whatevers.
Rename the ISO to sammax.iso
The mount line is then:
imgmount d j:\dosgames\sammax.iso -t iso

And what that samand~2.cue is doing there, I have no idea.

i have image files on iso folder of sam and max as sammax.iso
day of the tenticle as dott.iso
indiana jones as atlan.iso
and i cant get any of them to run
have tried
imgmount d "c:\users\user\atlan.iso -t iso

imgmount d "c:\users\user\sammax.iso -t iso

so i am having lots of luck as i notice as usual
anyway
I thought on the usb key did i have to do something on notepad and then
put into dosbox or something? cant remember now to get them to run
without the cds
sorry after i cure these cd problems i should be right
till i find some new games

Weren't your CD images in c:\users\user\isos\ ?
So your mount line should be:

imgmount d "c:\users\user\isos\atlan.iso" -t iso

imgmount d "c:\users\user\isos\sammax.iso" -t iso

imgmount d "c:\users\user\isos\dott.iso" -t iso

Mind: two ", one before c: and one after .iso

And you really should reread that post about creating a batch file to mount the appropiate ISO, would avoid you a lot of headaches and typing.......

Let's try the batch again.
Open notepad and input those lines:

imgmount d "c:\users\user\isos\atlan.iso" -t iso
d:
atlantis

Save it as:
c:\users\user\dosgames\atlancd.txt

Start ->computer -> find the file c:\users\user\dosgames\atlancd.txt
and select it (click ONCE left)
Hit F2
Rename it to:
atlancd.bat

No typos allowed.

Run dosbox and input:
atlancd

If the game is already installed it should automount your CD and run the game.
*IF* you didn't screw up somewhere.

[/Echo mode]
You can use that method for all your ISOs.
Adapt the names of course.

Same on your daughter's PC, but of course adapt the mount line to her XP PC.

i have finally got dott and sam running off the computer
now i have the problem with indy
i noticed that i had to make a atlancd.bat file
in notepad
excuse my ignorance and probably tired been at this all day
do i just put it in notepad and save it
or do i put in dosbox config file under notepad
because that is why indy obviously wont run
dont you just love me and all my problems just to keep you busy

Notepad, directly, do NOT put your ISO mount lines in Dosboxconf, or it will always mount the ISO when you run Dosbox.
The only thing in dosboxconfig to add under [autoexec] is your virtual C: mount, NOT your imgmounts.

So:
Open notepad, write your imgmount lines as described in notepad, save it as name.txt in your \dosgames\ folder, go to it and rename it to name.bat

I write name.txt / name.bat here in the understanding that it means:
atlancd.txt / atlancd.bat
name not to confuse you but because that's the basic principle, you can use it for ALL your ISO/BIN/CUE games, adapt the name to something short and related directly to the game.
As could be:
atlancd.bat
dottcd.bat
sammaxcd.bat
kq5.bat
etcetera
etcetera
etcetera
Always the same principle.
Keep the names short, 8 or lesser chars, game related, no typos allowed.

This will avoid you to have to type over and over again the same imgmount lines and making never ending typos.

And when I say \dosgames\ folder I mean of course the correct folder with the new path you have now.
Let's see we had t'll now:
c:\users\sue\dosgames
c:\users\user\dosgames\
and now it seems to have become:
c:\users\owner\dosgames.

I think those guys in the repair shop know you post here (... Not that hard to find out if they take a glance at your browser history before formatting your drive .... and have somekind of betting game running how much problems they give you with the new paths ..... LMAO.
.... hmmmm nevermind that.

And Mel's PC: new topics? something with "Mel-game name"?
Specific for the problems <strike>you create</strike> you could encounter on her XP pc?

i think i am getting somewhere and then i go nowhere
i think you are right about the guys in the repair
shop guess where this was yesterday back there again
and i here i am again doing it all again

ok i went to notepad and did all the bat files
yes but the bat files didnt work it doesnt just start up
i still have to do the imgmount thing first and then start the game
is that what i am supposed to do
ho hum ho hum
also why does dosbox keep coming up z:\even after i mounted it to c:\
i am going to scream

I had no dosbox when the compy came home so i had to reinstall from usb
is that why

Ok
the usb still works
it was the computer that didnt work whatever they did it to again in the shop
if it has to go back this time it is dead
it is now users\owner\
and i have now deleted all i did on the computer to begin with
and will start all over again
obviously they must of lost some files or something
will let you know how i recover

i have redone the dosbox on my computer yet again
i have played keen4 on it so that is ok
but i noticed that after i finish it just goes back toZ:
I went to the dosbox config file and under autoexec
it does say
mount c \dosgames\
c:
so isnt that supposed to start dosbox under c and not z
cant believe now i am back at the start all over again
when iwas going so good

That is of course if you copied the dosbox 0.72 folder and the dosgames folder in
c:\users\owner\

I am just curious, but why not use ScummVM to run the Lucasarts adventure games?
All those would need is the data files of the games (the .001 and .sou files) and that would be enough.

Sorry if I missed any specific reason why dosbox is the (required) choice.

Just curious!
