What have you done Sue?
Where is the KQUEST7.CUE and KQUEST7.BIN?

Why is there a imgmount KQUEST7.ISO?

????

what
I wouldnt have a clue
it worked when i installed it
cue and the bin should be in isos
hang on i will have a look
I told you my computer is very weird
actually they are there but the only nothing
so what happened to them
i put them there from the usb key
there is ghosts in this machine it just does what it wants
i will delete them and reload the ones from the usb again
I cant find the kquest 7 i downloaded to dosbox either
it has gone too
oh see i told you i cant play this game
i have too many problems with it
 maybe i should just leave it
and just download it from the cd when i want to play it
that is the only way it seems to work

Now if you want you can of course play it from the CD.

But: it isn't the best way to play it.
Modern CDplayers have spinup-spindown times, and those old games stress the modern CDplayers as they do a lot of CD access.
And you gonna screw up your CD sooner or later.
The game itself isn't also running really smoothly.
It really works better using a CD image in dosbox.

I guess that the KQUEST7.ISO isn't 100%.
Why don't you recreate a valid BIN/CUE from the CD?
It's pretty easy with ImgBurn.
You know the game works with a valid BIN/CUE image.

[Edit]
Sorry, was a bit short in time, have some little two legged critters running around here.
(Those pesky @#@#@# critters call me granddad, go figure.

As you see:
-> Select create image file from disk
-> You must get a save as, select BIN in the pull down menu, be sure to set your save path to c:\users\owner\isos
-> click on the big button at the bottom.
-> done.
-> BTW, the CUE file is created automatically.

Fact is: I always prefer creating BIN/CUE images.

The reason is that the standarised ISO images can not contain CDDA files, those are the files that are used on some 'mixed' mode CDs to store music tracks.
Even if KQUEST7 does not have those tracks, it's a good habit to use BIN/CUE, avoids creating faulty images when it occurs on those specific CDs.

There are other formats who can store those music tracks in an image file, but they aren't fully supported directly in dosbox, you need third programs to use them -(CloneCD and others)-

You simply can't go wrong using BIN/CUE in dosbox.
BIN/CUE images are 100% suppoted with imgmount.
Capiche?

Question:
Can you run the game when you mount the real CD in stead of the image?

It works the same as with the images.
The syntax is:

mount d x:\ -t cdrom

Replace the x:\ with the real CD drive letter under Windows.

Install from D: on C: , run KQ7 from C:\sierra\, same as with the CD image.

BTW, I still haven't found my KQ5 CD, Do you by any chance have mine?

this is very interesting
just wondering if i have a corrupted my cd somehow
because i did what you said
mount d d:\ -t cdrom
mcsdex installed
or whatever it isnt in front of me now
i did c:\install
it did something
came back to c:\
i put sierra
and nothing as usual
i am getting used to this believe me
so i thought i would be smart and put kq7dos
to see what would happen
and i got this insteadImage
whoops
hope it works
so i dont know what to do here
unless my cd is somehow corrupted
which wouldnt surprise me nowadays with this computer
i swear there is a ghost living in it, and doing things by itself
:suspicious:
anyway as far as your copy of kq5 goes
how would i have it?? but of course my computer could of taken it :D
but you can have my copy if you like and see if it works
so have any other suggestions for me to do
apart from do the cd thing again :karate:

What game are you talking about now? KQ7 or KQ5? In your previous post you mention both .....
I can't guess what you're talking about pumpkin.

About KQ5: if you can create a valid image and upload it, PM me the link, I will look at it.

But please, if you want to run KQ5 start a new topic.
Don't mix games in one topic. THX.

LMAO here.

[Edit]
Open imgburn, menu *tools* -> *settings* -*'general* and check if:
Image
is set as in the pic.

If not, change it and retry creating the KQ7 image.

Again: can you get it working with the real CD in your drive?

Check your CUE file, -(rightclick on it-> open with-> notepad)- should be this:

Code: Select all

FILE "KQUEST7.BIN" BINARY
  TRACK 01 MODE1/2048
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
Otherwise you could try to create an ISO file, will also work with KQ7 as there are no separate music tracks.

BTW: DON'T FORGET TO POST YOUR MOUNT LINES
:)

Still the same , pumpkin, the world isn't changed.
Principle is the same:

http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12733

Mount a virtual C
Mount the image as D
Install from D on C
Play

:)
