Try first to mount your CD as D: in dosbox when playing, if that fails:
delete what's in your \oldgames\ folder and reinstall the game, but this time do it right:
mount your CD as D: and install the game from the CD in dosbox.

Okay, that seemed to do the trick. I can now play the game!!!
I do have one more grievance. When I start DOSbox up in fullscreen=true and play WC2, the video lags and loads very slowly. Also, when I try moving the mouse around the map, the video and audio flat out freeze.
The weird thing is that when I minimize DOSbox, the audio and video work just fine, and I'm left unable to go back into fullscreen. Is there any easy remedy for this, as I'm having to squint in order to see my units!
Soundsettings?
And:
-> Try to change output= ... in dosboxconfig file, needs dosbox restart.
-> If you can't get it running swell in full screen you can make the window larger by changing the windowresolution in dosbox conf file under [SDL].
In other words: read the dosbox readme file ......

Thanks for the advice, Dosraider!!! My copy of WC2 is working smoothly.
I have one more question for you though:
What's the dos name for Beyond the Dark Portal, as I wish to install that too.

??? What's with that obstination of yours wanting to install CD games by copying the CD on your harddisk???
Once again: dosgames on CD are installed by mounting the CD and install them from CD to HD, or by creating a CD image and mount that image as CD drive D: in dosbox.
Even if by beginners luck you achieved to get WC2 working with your method, for most games you will get a 'nope', won't work.
The WC2 expansion is normally installed from the extension CD in the same folder as WC2, all in dosbox.
But if you're a fan of WarCraft2 I would advise you to get your hands on the battle.net release, that's complete with the extension included.
