Dosgame site question
I'm an Admin at kenny's site and yes, it is abandonware. 338 games too. Kenny going adbandon ware was not accidently.
DOSGAMES.NL is adbandonware, the site no more, and Emmzee still has a link to it...

Yeah im going to stick to being a reviewer at FWUG. not that i was going to leave. Right now im trying to get a new host for Thralls hangout...Da_Goat wrote:Thrall, just stick to Shareware/freeware and you'll be fine. And if you get a letter from the IDSA asking them to remove the link, do so (or ignore it since they send out so many false warnings, damn automated searching  ).

Da_Goat: Suprisingly Kenny has not gotten a letter from the ISDA. He's in estonia if that helps.

Having legal games on your site doesn't even necessarily mean you won't be (incorrectly) contacted by the IDSA. I (or, rather, my webhost) was contacted by the IDSA recently and told:
"Based on the information obtained by IDSA that is provided in this e-mail attachment, IDSA has a good faith belief that the Internet site found at http://www.dosgames.com/ infringes the rights of one or more IDSA members by offering for download one or more unauthorized copies of one or more game products protected by copyright, including, but not limited to:
Doom
Mario
Quake
Wolfenstein"
Of course, all of the games on dosgames.com are shareware/freeware/demo/publicdomain ...
I sent them a rather ... uh, let's say "angry" reply ... and received back:
"Thank you for complying with our notice of copyright infringement. One of our investigators did not look closely enough at the links so we apologize for the inconvenience. Our database will be updated.
Best Regards,
DMCA Officer"
Bang-up job those guys do, I must say. Hopefully they don't make these sorts of stupid mistakes often ...
Anyways. This sordid little tale notwithstanding, Thrall, just make sure that any game you post is shareware, freeware, demo, or public domain. A game's included README or documentation files WILL tell you if it's one of the above. If you're not sure, err on the side of caution and don't post the game. A good rule is if the game is what I term a "commercial" game (ie it was released in boxed form, and sold in stores) it's a no-go. Good luck with your site, when its done let me know and I'll link it up for you from dosgames.com.
