first of all before i explain why i have a mother board that keeps giving me the press a key to reboot and so i removed the battery and left it out all night/. then in the moriing i put it back in and it still gives me the smae thing. now while i was looling over the web i found this virus ARTICLE called how to recover your computer form a cih virus and what it does is corrupts the computer hardrive and erases the bios memory.

now here is the dangerous mission im goin gto ask you to help me with.
i need the cih virus so i can put it on a disk and put it in the mother boards memory and have it "kill" the mother board so i can recover it.

now the mother board that i have has no operating system which i want install on it. i got it from the dump and it works fine just needs to be refurbished or refreshed or whatever. and i would like to put some new cards and parts on it. any help is fine.

I tried to translate your post into something understandable through google translate and it gave me:
This is complete nonsense.
Rephrase your post into something we can understand please.
Thank you.
And if you don't have an OS, how you think to boot into something? Into thin air?

Tried a bootflop?

FYI: a virus can erase a BIOS, but it can't reside in it.

Feeling swell?
Are you by any chance related to a certain Tinman?

ok wheres what happend

i found a mother board at a junk yard and decided to make my own computer so i can give to my sisters. that way they will stop jacking my usb wireless adpater fo rhte imnternet and go on this website called stardoll.cm r something. so while i grabbed some comptuer parts and got it going i got this press a key top reboot after the bios stuff was done. thats when i decided to journey arund th einternet and found a article on cih virus. so sinmce i tried to disconnect th emother board;s batter adn leave it out over night, reset settings, im goin gto do what man has never done before. infect the stuck up b-i-t-c-h (LOL) and reinstall the bios stuff back in the chip. plus i dont wan to buy a new cause its hard to get money sometimes. so can you help me find this virus so i can store it on a disk and put it into the mother board that i go fom the dump or can you help me get rid of the press a key to reboot. this mother board never had an operting system that i think ran 98 on it. heres the model number if you need to know which one it is. asus p2l97-s

Let me get this straight. You're going to "attack" a virus "hiding" on your motherboard with another virus?
Seriously, just buy a new motherboard. They're not THAT expensive.

That, or learn how to share with your sisters.

no i neeed a virus to attack the mother board to make the message "press any key to reboot" message go away. that way i can recover it and get it working im like renewing the board.

like have the CIH virus erase the bios chips memory so i can renew it. like put in a new bios upgrade in the chip. if you dont know what im talking about go to wikipedia and type in cih virus and read about it. adn you will see what i mean

When you have a unique idea that no one's ever tried before, it's either utterly brilliant ... or there's a reason why no one's ever tried it.

First of all, from the Wikipedia entry you cited, it says CIH will "<u>in some cases</u> corrupt the system BIOS". So even if you found the CIH virus, and got it onto the computer somehow, it may not do anything to the BIOS like you expect.

Secondly, how do you plan to get the virus onto the computer if you can't even <i>access</i> the computer? (I think that's what dosraider was getting at earlier on.) What's the plan once you get the CIH virus on a diskette/CD?

Thirdly, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the CIH virus doesn't "reset" the BIOS to a default state or something like that. It <i>permanently corrupts</i> required BIOS code. As in, <u>destroys</u> it, makes it unusable. <b>Using the CIH virus to "fix" your BIOS is like saying you'll fix your car engine by throwing a lit grenade inside.</b>

What you may want to do instead is investigate why the "Press any key to reboot" error is coming up. If the motherboard needs a new battery, buy a new battery. Some other questions to help find the problem: Are there any other error messages? Are there any beeps (ie beep codes) when the computer turns on? Those can often be a clue to the problem.

Dear gameboy, a totally corrupted BIOS is extremely rare.
What can happen -(and what probably is the case here)- is that the user data is wiped, can simply be caused by a dead battery.
Multimeter-> and check the battery.
Battery OK? Start up and enter the BIOS setup (usually hammer on delete whilst booting up) and look in the BIOS if everything is present, eventually input the right params. Save on exit.
->In fact you don't really need a good battery, but then everytime you start up you gonna have to setup your BIOS.
More info about your mobo:
http://www.motherboard.cz/mb/asus/P2L97-S.htm
BIOS download:
http://www.motherboard.cz/driver/asus.htm

The possibility you get your motherboard working:
Close to nihil. You lack knowledge.

Possible things that can go wrong on a mobo: PLENTY.

Says enough.

A bit less melodrama please. You aren't on juvenile.com here.

And maybe there was a reason it was in the dump afterall.

Did any of you notice that he GOT IT FROM THE DUMP...

My money is on it being damaged. By rain, by virus, by hammer...
It was at the freaking dump!!

That's only because Mr. Worm and emmzee were spamming the topic.

gameboy kid - instead of doing something crazy like that CIH-virus, why not try the normal method of (re)installing / re-flashing the BIOS?

I found a manual here:

http://www.motherboards.org/files/manua ... 7s-105.pdf

and new BIOS files and utilities here:

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx

(select Motherboard / Slot1 / P2L97-S)

A) Don't double post. There is an "edit" button for a reason.

2. Not everything can be fixed. I'd put money on it that you will never get this thing working. Especially not with your "i'ma poot a viress on it so tat it b fizxd." theory.

C) You didn't answer whoever asked about the beeps. Does it make any beeps?

'Burned the RAM'? Did you put an oxy-acetylene welding torch on it?

Oooooooooow B) GAMER is in a bad mood ... run and hide n00bs!!

Of course Gameboy, it can't be something simple, oh noes, it has to be some exotic virus or whatever, something special.

A interupted conductor on the printboard, a bad contact, or a boken electronic element would be to simple, it isn't melodramatic enough.

Why don't you simply go for the easy solution, and buy your lovely sister a second hand P2?
Let's see, Kapaza.be ......
P2, 350Mhz, 192Mb, Zip drive, 2xUSB, 15" CRT mon, mouse, keyb, all in good working order, ideal for your sister's surfing habits .... 25€
