Could anybody help me get this game to work? When I use the .exe it says

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe
The system cannot open COM1 port requested by the application. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

If I choose ignore, it starts the game momentarily before dropping out. Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it? Or am I screwed?

Since it looks like your using NT/2000/XP, try running cmd and then goto the Transport Tycoon Directory and run it from there. If that doesn't work, use a DOS Emulator, like DOSBox

i've got that game and i've had the same problem

Well to get around that problem i used my parents old 98 machine. It sometimes hangs up because it's only a 300mhz computer but it plays. I have heard if you use a 98 boot disk you can boot up your computer to dos at startup and then just go cd/ C:\mps\ttdlx or whatever directory its in and type tycoon and it should load as long as the configuration was already set. i found in xp and 98 if you can get this game to load you can't get sound effects to work but booting to dos fixed that problem for me. hopefully this will help you too.

i forgot to mention i have tried to use the cmd command in xp but that gives me the com port 3 and 4 problem. just get to dos somehow, which is possible i've done it but i used a xp cd to do it. i'd try a 98 disk first though. floppy diskette i mean don't use a 98 cd i don't know what would happen then.

This may not work for XP
But keep press F8 at start up to get a menu then go command promt only or dospromt only

Or...

try going to shut down and then to ms dos mode!!

Cheers

Doesn't work for XP. XP's DOS Mode is only available via boot disk.

well as long as you can get to dos with a boot disk you should have no problems once your in dos to run the game. just make sure your sound and music setttings work and it should run with no problem.

You need an NTFS File Driver, like the one in my signature (NTFSDOS).
