Has anyone ever got the origional quake to run on XP? If so how?

You need to use WinQuake, which I have a link to, which I will get now:

I downloaded WinQuake as well, and it still won't run. It's couldn't load a gfx.wad file.

Help?

Try re-installing it.

That's what I use, too, and it works fine. Just for some reason all the O's are L's.

You must have Quake 1 to play winquake. copy the winquake files to Quake 1 directory. and run winquake.

or you could just use DosBox

Quake has a problem running through DOSbox.
Your best bet is to dual-boot into Win98SE.
