File additions, updates & replacements

Post by MrFlibble »

This is a thread for any file replacements that may be necessary. Personally I believe that it's always better to have the most recent version of a game if available. Additionally, for some games a free release is available as opposed to the shareware version.

Freeware repacements

Alien Cabal
Current version: Shareware
Replacement: Full release
Comment: The free full version was available for some time from the official website (Wayback Machine link). In the recent years the author and owner of the game, Greg Taylor, has been contacting DOS/old game related websites and offering the full version as freeware.
Yes, that's me. Alien Cabal was a lot of fun to write and publish and I would like it to continue to live on as freeware. [source]
The file currently available from archive.org (link above) is the same as the one which was up for download from aliencabal.com in the early 2000s.

Kiloblaster
Current version: Shareware
Replacement: Full version
Comment: Author Allen Pilgrim released the full version of this game in August 2008 along with Xargon.

Dark Ages
Current version: Shareware
Replacement: Full release
Comment: Apogee/3D Realms released this as freeware a while ago.

Electro Man/Electro Body
Current version: Shareware
Replacement: Free release (you want the Creative Commons one).

Overkill
Current version: Shareware
Replacement: Full version
Comment: freeware'd in 2008.

Traffic Department 2192
Current version: Shareware
Replacement: Full version
Comment: freeware'd in 2007.

BACKLASH
Current version: shareware
Replacement: Free release
Comment: the developers declared the game freeware sometime in 2000 if not before, the full version is available from their site via the Wayback Machine.

Version updates/additions

Super Angelo
Current version: Shareware 2.1
Replacement: Shareware 2.2
Comment: You might also want to note that there's a Flash version available for this game.

Vinyl Goddess from Mars
Current version: Shareware 1.0
Replacement: Shareware 1.1

Charlie II
Current version: Shareware 2.04
Replacement: Shareware 3.11 [ch2dos.zip]

Flying Tigers
Current version: Shareware 1.0
Replacement: Shareware 2.10
Comment: shareware v2.10 works fine in DOSBox but it needs a little trick to run, please refer to this topic at VOGONS.

Galactix
Current version: shareware 1.3a
Replacement: shareware 1.5

Alien Rampage
Additional file: original installer (v1.13) [sdramp.exe]
Comment: There's no reason not to preserve the installer if serves space permits.
