Ideas for the next JMS-made DOS game!

Post by Interon »

Hello all,

Can you give me some ideas to help me make a new DOS game in QuickBasic 4.5. I've been brainstorming and still can't come up with a sensible idea since I finished Diamond Grabber: The Energy Diamonds.

I was considering making a Darts game but if ye give me a better idea, I might go with it.

A platform game would be very hard for me to do. Also, QuickBasic's limits might only let me produce half a level anyway.

I played Cool Spot on Sega and PC. Also, there was an Atari game where you shoot the word Pepsi and a Pepsi logo would fly across and you would try to shoot it. It was like Space Invaders. I think it was called Pepsi Invaders.

I read that only 125 copies of it were made and only Coke employees in Atlanta, USA received those copies. However, there is a ROM of that game easily available.

Yeah, the cola wars were extremely intense in the early 80s and I guess that game came in perfect timing.

Dunno, but you seem to be good at puzzle games and such. Try playing D.R.O.D for an example-something fun but not so complex that you can't understand it.

I tried the Pepsi Logo idea but I couldn't make a sensible Pepsi logo in 80x50 or 80x25 text mode. Also, there's the small risk of trademark/copyright/patent legal problems.

Also, the Fools Errand link on your website is broken, Wally. I tried it last night and now so it is definitely broken.

DB: Do you know off hand where I can get DROD?

http://www.drod.net/ It used to be a commercial game. D.R.O.D. was remade as freeware by an independent group with Webfoot's permission.

A simple Tyrian clone:

Power ups: letters (M= main gannon, T=torpedoes, etc)
Speed setting, key configuration, definable skill level...

Except in Newfoundland. Pepsi and Coke are like about 70/30 here. In the mid 90s, Coke was boycotted because they laid off workers. The Newfoundland Coke company shut down forever and Newfoundland's Coke supply comes from Nova Scotia. I think that was what gave Pepsi so much power in Newfoundland. Also, there are lots of places where there are Pepsi vending machines but no Coke ones.

Anyway, thanks guys. I'll wait till inspiration hits me before I make another game.
