Spybuddy

Post by FLoz6 »

My parents installed SpyBuddy onto my computer. I hate it. Can anyone tell me how to get around it, or how to delete it? I tried looking for the files to delete them, but if you delete the files when it is still running, it doesn't really do it. So can someone tell me what I can do to destroy the dang program, or how to mask it?

1. Rent your own damn flat, you freeloader.

2. http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/li ... ndex.phtml and http://www.shareup.com/Transparent_Scre ... -7012.html might work. It'll set you back some money-wise, though.

DB maybe F6 could have her own copy of Windows on a different partition on the same computer. If all the drive space is used and the partition is FAT32, she can use FIPS to mark off her own chunk of the partition (thereby creating two partitions).

Thereafter she can install Windows on her partition and keep the other one on her parents' partition (use OS/2 Boot Manager too maybe).

Well if your children/teens surf the Net and you can't be there to watch them 100% of the time, Spybuddy/Net Nanny/others can tell you if your children visited forbidden sites or not.

I would suggest changing the Administration priviledges on that program or programs, but I will mention you will need to get into Administrator Account and that requires a password. For parents who have networked their child's computer to their main computer to use just the one main internet account, you will need to look for VPN Software or Network/Internet monitoring Software or for shared folders, ie sometimes parents on networks share the Cookies folder, History folder and Temporary Internet Files folder to see if there children have been accessing restricted sites, they also create rights to full access and give the children no access!! Another option parents tend to choose is a Firewall with Web Monitoring/Filtering, such as Norton Personal Firewall or ZoneAlarm Pro.

If your parents use Windows 2000 or NT4 , you won't be able to use Add/Remove programs, unless you are in the Administrator Account and most parents normally tend to password it from intruders, which also includes their children!! A few other options parents tend to choose, is to change settings in Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator such as put a list of restricted sites, programs and words etc etc and not allow access from childrens computer even they are networked, and or firewall every computer using a server & client firewall...All I can say now after all this is good luck with trying to get past your parents cause remember they are a lot smarter than what you think!!

I agree with this ... the best solution, IMHO, if you haven't already, is to talk to your parents about it, and ask them why they don't trust you enough to let you browse the web without restrictions. Tell them that you are responsible, and you feel that SpyBuddy is not only an invasion of your privacy, but it can block access to legitimate sites (since no site blocker program is perfect) and moreover it implies that you aren't capable of making your own judgements about what sites you want to visit.

That is so true Emmz...all software which is released isn't 100% perfect, that is why most companies release patches and updates for their software.

But if you actually look at Spybuddy and Netnanny, they are similar software owned by different vendors which actually do the same thing, the only thing that seperates them are the features both of these products have.

I once installed such a program on my computer to see how it workes. It worked but I didn't knew how to get it off again

You should try searching Google on how to disable it...

Joris, you could of asked me before installing that software or matter of fact any software, as I have some knowledge on different programs...and I know for a fact that to uninstall Spybuddy and Netnanny you have to be logged into the software as the Administrator, and logged into Windows in Administrator...except on Windows 95/98 Machines where you only have to be logged in Adminstrator with the software.

That was a while ago and I installed Windows again soon after that, so there's no problem anymore...

thats another way, just format and FDISK the computer!!
but thats the cowards way out for everything...I have actually known some technicians that have told the customer that they had "to format the computer when it was hit with a virus", when all they could of done is spent 5 minutes of their worktime and visited Symantec Security Response Center and downloaded a removal tool or removal instructions for FREE!!

It shows you how dodgy the IT industry is becoming!!
