Lord Soth and Software Zone

Post by Interon »

There was an excellent DOS games site called Lord Soth (They also offered Windows games). Does it exist anymore? I searched far and wide for it to no avail.

Lord Soth was a child site of Happy Puppy, then they became http://www.lordsoth.com, then after that I don't know what happened to it. IIRC, the owner of the site was a man named Joseph Seymour.

Ditto for Software Zone, a mixed DOS/Windows gaming website. They once existed at http://www.softwarezone.com, now I don't know what happened to them.

Does anyone here remember these two web sites or what happened to them?

Yea, Lord Soth's was one of my favorite sites back in the day ...

Some research on Google Groups yielded the following post from 1996 by the Lord Soth guy:
I thought I would update all of you on the progress of my site.
I just hit the 1300 game mark, including a demo of
Virua Fighter PC. In addition to that I keep addition hints,
tips, walkthroughs, and misc. cheats for most of the
latest games.

Joseph Seymour (a.k.a. Lord Soth) [email protected]
Maintainer of Lord Soth's Games on the Internet WWW site:

So it seems like his name is indeed Joseph Seymour. Its rather unlikely that email address swill works however ...

Can't find much info on the web about him ... although apparently he was part of a 1997 lawsuit by Activision against numerous people/companies:

The archive.org site isn't much help ... the only email address listed is [email protected] which of course doesn't work anymore either. (The domain is now owned by some Korean company/guy).

The only thing I can think of is ....... if there is somewhere on the web that lists previous whois info, like the whois info for previous owners of domains, you could find out some more info about him that way. But I don't know if any such service. I posted on another message board asking if such a service exists. B)

Although I don't wanna go to much more trouble with this heheh

EDIT: A quick search on my 2nd favorite search engine after Google (<a href="http://www.metacrawler.com">MetaCrawler</a>) found this list of all games that were on Lord Soth's site ... unfortunately the links are all broken but at least it lists all the games:

Thanks so much Emmzee. :D

Yeah I guess that court case probably made him lose interest in his website. But at least we still have a small remnant, and his DOS games list!
