How does he get into Combat Mode in Prince of Persia

How does he get into Combat Mode in Prince of Persia

I've tried every key. How does he get his sword out and in? i.e. get into combat mode.
I am running in WIndows XP and everyhting else seems okayy at the moment.

You need to find the sword first, if you’re playing PoP 1 then it’s down in the bottom right hand corner of the map.

If you already got the sword but, to pull it out whenever you want press 5. When you meet a guard the prince goes automatically in combat mode.
