Nocturnal Nightmares is a simple action game made by a couple of 13 year old friends in QuickBasic. (For more about the game, see the video I remastered my 30 year-old DOS game! on the eviltrout YouTube channel.) The best part is probably the introduction story which is told via cutscenes, and features some swanky palette cycling animation. The actual game is pretty bland, you move down a straight hallway, shooting aliens as they pop up. The author has provided the source, as well as his own remake of the game in the Godot engine, in the eviltrought/nighmares github repo. To play the remake you'll need to build it yourself using Godot.
Instructions:
Choose 3 (486) when prompted at the beginning of the game. You'll probably want to select SoundBlaster sound, MCGA, and choose 3 again (for IRQ 7).

Play Nocturnal Nightmares in Browser
